What is a rainbow child?

The term "rainbow child" often refers to children raised in families that differ from the traditional family structure, which typically consists of a mother, father, and children. These children are intentionally brought into the world by parents who have an abundance of love to share. The term also refers to children born with huge hearts and an abundance of joy to give to their families and people around them, meaning that they are not affected by negative emotions.

Rainbow families often require assistance to realize their dreams, such as sperm donation from a friend or a licensed sperm bank. If you are interested in buying donor sperm for treatment, then follow the link to our sperm donor search here.

What is a rainbow baby?

The term "rainbow baby" describes a child born within a rainbow family, which typically includes one or more homosexual parents. These families can also be formed by friends who decide to have a child together without being romantically involved. Read more about donor-conceived children here.

Free children's book about donor conception

We have made our very own children’s book ‘Our Miracle’/’My Miracle’, as we want to help donor-conceived families talk about donor conception. The book was made with help from Cryos’ Donor Child Consultant, Emma, who is donor-conceived herself. Click on the button to read more about the book.

How common are rainbow children?

According to WHO, 1 out of every 6th couples will struggle with infertility and the number of couples incapable of conceiving has increased in recent times. As a result, more people use egg or sperm donation to fulfil their dream of a child meaning that rainbow children ar more common now than ever.

How are they conceived?

Donor-conceived children are born as a result of fertility treatment with a donation from an egg and/or a sperm donor. It is possible for the parent(s) to use a known donor, but in most cases, the donor is found in a sperm or egg bank. This means that the donor-conceived child has at least one parent to whom it is not genetically related.
