Sperm donor Adam – Why he became a donor
“I became a sperm donor because by the time my wife and I wanted to have children of our own it just didn’t seem realistic for us to have biological children, unless we went through a surrogate or getting an egg donor. My wife is older than me and she has always focused on her career.
In doing all this research, it turns out that there is a huge need for sperm donors, and I decided that that was something that I wanted to do. I wanted to make a difference in the world and help others.
The donor process is easier than you think. At first, you fill out some paperwork and you have to give a little bit about your family history and information of what it is that you’re like and, you know, lifestyle choices and those kinds of questions. And after they get you all done, you just essentially show up and probably takes about less than ten minutes.
You donate and they give a gift card to compensate for your travel time and you’re done, and you can probably do it two or three times a week. You can come in after work, you can come in before work. They’re really flexible about their hours.
To the children that I might be creating, I would say, live your life to the fullest, be optimistic, help others. My message to the parents is that I believe that every individual should have the opportunity to pursue their dream of becoming parents themselves.
I know for myself that the day we adopted the two children we have, it was the greatest day of my life. I love being a parent, helping them grow and teaching them and just being a parent. It really is one of the greatest things in the world.”
