There is a wide variety of infertility treatments that include the use of donor sperm and eggs. Here we discuss ICI, IUI and IVF as possible options for your fertility treatment.
What is IUI (Intra Uterine Insemination)?
Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI) is an insemination where donor sperm is inseminated directly into the uterine cavity. This is done at a clinic. Scientific studies have shown a three to four times higher pregnancy rate with an IUI than through vaginal/cervical insemination (ICI).
Before IUI can be carried out, the sperm must be prepared through swim-up or density gradient centrifugation in order to remove prostaglandins (from the prostate) and bacteria from the sperm.
Cryos offers IUI ready sperm that has been prepared and is ready to use for your IUI treatment.
Who uses IUI?
IUI can be done using donor sperm or your partner’s sperm. Donor sperm can be used by heterosexual couples when the male partner is infertile or carries a risk of genetic disease. A single woman or lesbian couple who long to become parents are also able to use donor sperm in an IUI procedure.
What is ICI (Intra Cervical Insemination)?
Intra Cervical Insemination (ICI) is a vaginal insemination, where a syringe is used to insert the sperm into the vagina and then it is squeezed out toward the entrance of the cervix.
ICI is performed with (unwashed) sperm* and contains seminal plasma and prostate secretion. If ICI unwashed sperm is not available from your favorite donor then IUI ready sperm can also be used for an ICI treatment.
Who uses ICI?
Home insemination is a great option for single women, couples struggling to have a baby due to male partner fertility issues, or lesbian couples. This is an at-home procedure that can be done in privacy without any requirement of a visit to a doctor’s office. Find out all the benefits to home insemination and why it is so popular.
What is IVF?
In Vitro Fertilization, also known as IVF, is an assisted reproductive technology where an egg and sperm are manually combined for fertilization outside of the womb. Once an embryo has formed, it will be transferred to the uterus where hopefully a successful pregnancy will occur. The chances of becoming pregnant are higher with this procedure because you are inserting an already developing embryo into your uterus rather than just sperm.
Who uses IVF?
In Virto Fertilization is utilized by couples experiencing male factor infertility and women who experience ovulation issues and other disorders that impact their fertility.
