Read the Guest Post by Baby Quest Founder, Pamela Hirsch:

Most people are drawn to causes because of personal experience. Baby Quest certainly began that way. After witnessing our daughter’s long battle with infertility, I realized the pain, both emotional and physical, caused by this disease. Having a child should be a natural process, not one that creates months and years of longing, tears, and anguish.

I also came to understand that, since insurance often does not cover the cost of procedures such as in vitro fertilization, the ability to pursue parenthood becomes impossible for those who do not have the funds readily available.

Our family was fortunate to be able to provide financial support allowing our daughter and son-in-law to have two children via gestational surrogacy. Many others are not so fortunate which is why I started Baby Quest.

Baby Quest Foundation Provides Financial Assistance for IVF in the Form of Grants

Baby Quest Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charity that provides financial assistance for IVF (in vitro fertilization) and other fertility treatments to those who cannot afford the high costs of procedures. This also includes egg and sperm donation, egg freezing, and gestational surrogacy.

Since March 2012, Baby Quest has awarded 70 grants totaling more than $950,000 in cash and cash equivalents (negotiated doctor discounts, free medications, waived legal fees). There are now 51 Baby Quest babies with 9 more on the way. The families that form the Baby Quest community are located throughout the United States and are made up of heterosexual, same-sex couples and singles.

Baby Quest had the honor to ring the opening bell at NASDAQ in August 2013. They have been featured on The View, The Today Show, and mentioned on Good Morning America. Twice yearly, in May and November, Baby Quest will review grant applications. The number of grants they can award is based on how much money they have collected in donations.

Why Do You Need Baby Quest?

With 1 in 8 women seeking help to become pregnant, the need is there. One round of IVF can cost $14,000 plus medications of $5000. The costs of gestational surrogacy exceed $110,000.  Baby Quest has helped those who have devastated their savings on failed procedures and mortgaged their homes, only to end up without a child. They have awarded grants to military personnel – one a female Army veteran who lost her leg in Afghanistan and needed donor eggs to conceive. Another recipient had survived cancer only to be robbed of her fertility. She is now the mother of two, thanks to an egg donor and a surrogate who carried the embryos.
