When a child inherits a genetic disease oftentimes it is because there are mutations in the same genes of both the woman and the man. To make your patient feel more calm and secure about her choice of donor, we offer to match her genes up against the donor’s. Performing a Genetic Matching test minimizes the risk of having a child with a serious recessive disease.
Two kinds of Genetic Matching – incl. match guarantee
We offer two kinds of Genetic Matching services. No matter which one of these services your patient chooses, we guarantee a match between her and a donor who is genetically compatible to her. This means that if there is a no-match between her and the chosen donor, she can choose a new donor who we will match up against her genes. We will continue this process free of charge, until she has a match with a donor.
Panel Matching – Matching your patient’s genes up against the donor’s
The Panel Matching service gives your patient a broad and general matching. With Panel Matching we will match more than 300 of your patient’s genes – the ones with the highest risk of causing a serious disease – up against the genes of the donor she has chosen. To do this, all we need from her is a saliva sample that she makes with a kit she receives from us.
Single Gene Matching– Getting to know if the donor also carries that one mutation
The Single Gene Matching service is for your patient who already knows that she carries a specific genetic mutation and want to be sure that the donor she chooses does not. In most cases she will know about the mutation from a genetic screening performed by you or another fertility clinic or doctor.
How to order Genetic Matching
IMPORTANT: If you want to order one of our two Genetic Matching services for your patient, please contact our Clinic Account Team. They will inform you which donors are ready for Genetic Matching. If your patient is making the order herself, please ask her to contact Customer Care to get guidance.
You can find prices of our Genetic Matching services here.
When you or your patient has chosen a donor, it is time to make the order on Cryos’ website – either by you or her depending on how you operate. The process of making an order with Genetic Matching is very similar to a regular order. However, there are some differences that you need to be aware of when you are going through the checkout process. These are:
- 1. When you have chosen the donor in the Donor Search, place the amount of straws needed in the basket as you would do in a regular order. When choosing Genetic Matching, we recommend that you purchase a minimum of 3 straws to make sure that the straws are not sold out while we are conducting the Genetic Matching. Note that we also recommend reserving extra straws for potential future siblings.
- 2. To add Genetic Matching to the order, write ‘Genetic Matching -Panel Matching’ or Genetic Matching Single Gene Matching’ in the ‘Remarks’ field.
- 3. When choosing the shipping date, please choose the latest day possible.
- 4. When choosing the payment method, please choose ‘Payment by bank transfer’.
When we receive your order, you will be contacted by one from our Clinic Account Team who will send you the payment details for the Genetic Matching service chosen.
Please remember to indicate the order ID when making the payment. You will find your order ID in the headline in the confirmation email you receive shortly after submitting the order.
If the panel matching is chosen, the saliva test kit will be sent to you or your patient as soon as we have received your payment. Please be aware that a bank transfer might take up to 3 working days before it reaches our account.
The process after ordering Genetic Matching
The process after ordering Genetic Matching differs pending on the service chosen:
After ordering Panel Matching
When ordering the Genetic Matching solution Panel Matching, you will receive a test kit by mail to make a saliva sample at home. After making the sample it must be returned to our cooperating partners at Igenomix using the accompanying packaging and shipping label.
Within approximately 6 weeks, we will contact you or your patient with the result and you or she will receive the test result documentation via email depending on the agreement.
After ordering Single Gene Matching
When ordering the Genetic Matching solution Single Gene Matching, your patient or you must provide us with the information about the genetic mutation that your patient is carrying. The Customer Care Team will contact you with further information about this process.
Within approximately 6 weeks, we will contact you or your patient, with the result and you or she will receive the test result documentation on email depending on the agreement.
The result: A match or a no-match
No matter which Genetic Matching service is chosen, the result will either be that there is a ‘match’ or a ‘no-match’. If there is a ‘no-match’ you or your patient can, free of charge, choose a new donor. The Customer Care Team will help you or your patient find a new donor that is ready for Genetic Matching.
When your patient has chosen a new donor, we will perform a new Genetic Matching test. We will continue until there is a match with a donor.
Even though we conduct a matching between you and your chosen donor, we cannot eliminate the risk of the child developing a genetic disease. Not all inheritable diseases can be identified when conducting a matching, and new or unknown mutations cannot always be identified using matching either.
If you have questions about the process of ordering Genetic Matching or anything else, please contact our Clinic Account Team.
We look forward to helping you and your patient find her match.
