Many men experience low sperm quality. In 1 out of 3 cases, infertility is related to the man’s sperm quality. That doesn’t mean that the men with low sperm quality will not be able to conceive. It might just take a little longer or require a little help to succeed. Therefore, if you are in doubt or just curious about your fertility, a sperm analysis can provide you with useful insights.
How do we test sperm quality?
At Cryos, we can test your sperm quality in our laboratory by analysing a sperm sample under a microscope. The sperm quality can be determined by looking at different factors, such as the sperm cells’ ability to move (motility) and the sperm count. The quality of the sperm is defined as its ability to fertilize an egg. This means, that the greater the number of the spermatozoa with good mobility, the greater are the chances of a pregnancy.
What is the process of a sperm analysis?

2. Fill out forms at Cryos
When you arrive at Cryos, our staff will ask you to fill out a couple of forms regarding the sperm analysis.
3. Produce sperm sample
Our staff will show you our private rooms where you can take your time to produce the sperm sample. Afterwards, you will be asked to hand in the sample to our staff in the reception. They will make sure that it will be processed in our laboratory. Alternatively, it is possible to do the sperm sample at home. We just need it within 1 hour after the ejaculation. To obtain the best result, we recommend sexual abstinence for at least 2 days prior to the sperm test.
4. Receive the result via phone or email
In 1-2 days, you will receive the results of the analysis via phone or email.
How to understand the result of a sperm analysis
When we analyse your sperm sample, we will determine the motility of your sperm. The motility is the concentration of active sperm cells per millilitre sperm. A normal sperm count is more than 15 million sperm cells per millilitre, and more than 40% of the sperm cells should be moving to characterize the sperm quality as normal.
When you receive the result of the analysis, we will inform you about the motility and whether this means that the quality of your sample is normal or reduced.
You will receive the results of your sperm analysis via e-mail or telephone. You are always welcome to contact us if you have any additional questions about sperm analyses.
How much does a sperm analysis cost?
A sperm analysis costs 85 EUR (excl. VAT). You can pay with cash, bank transfer or credit card.
