Embracing love and life: A lesbian couple's journey towards parenthood
Meet Lea and Capucine, a lesbian couple who defeated broken dreams and created a family based on their love towards each other. Read about their journey towards parenthood here.
A dream collapses
When I realised I was a lesbian, there was one difficult thing to accept. It was not the way people looked at me or the way I looked at myself that was difficult to accept. Instead, I found it difficult to lose the possibility of a spontaneous pregnancy. Ever since I was a child, I dreamed of waking up one morning, feeling a bit nauseous, and taking a pregnancy test. To my surprise, the test would be positive. Unfortunately, as I learned that I was lesbian, my dream collapsed.

Starting our journey towards parenthood
When my wife, Capucine, and I got together, the subject quickly came up: we wanted a child, and it was clear to both of us that I would be the one to carry it. However, I did not yet have what it took to embark on this adventure, as I still feared the medical aspect of fertility treatment.
Even though I was scared of the medical aspect, I had a very precise idea of how I wanted to conceive this future child, especially about the donor, whom we wanted to be ID Release. I had discovered Cryos a few years earlier and thought they seemed fantastic. I spoke to Capucine about it and showed her the Cryos website. She was impressed by the amount of information we could find on the donors. We started looking and found a few profiles we liked - one in particular. We then left the subject and went on with our lives.
A few years later, our desire to become parents was stronger than ever, and we decided to overcome our fear. This was the beginning of our journey towards parenthood.
Making our dream come true
We are French but live in Portugal, so it was at a Portuguese fertility clinic that we began our adventure. Choosing a sperm donor was not easy, as we wanted to be sure we were making the right choice. We found it hard to compare Donor Profiles because there was so much information about each donor. So we decided to choose a donor based on the feeling in our gut and guess who. We chose the very first donor we had liked, years earlier!
In March 2019, we had our first insemination and we received a positive pregnancy test on our first try!
We were filled with joy, a little fear too and a lot of love for this little life that was already developing in my belly. My pregnancy went extremely well, as did the birth. Today, our daughter Liv is 4 years old and we are so happy with her. She is a little girl full of life, always smiling, funny, and wants to explore the world.
Have a nice day and see you soon!
