My amazing journey: from globetrotter to proud mom
Ever since I was a child, I had two big dreams: to travel around the world and to become a mother one day. At the age of 35, I had already fulfilled my wanderlust by working across five continents. Yet, the desire to be a mother remained, and I knew I had to chart my own path to make this dream come true, even if it meant embarking on this journey alone.
Since I was a child, I have had two big dreams: the first, to be a mother and the second to travel around the world. At 35 years old, I had already fulfilled my second dream by working across five continents. I had followed my mother's wise advice who told me that a child would NEVER ruin my life but would CHANGE it. So, at a very young age, I decided to ‘plan’ my motherhood after I had fulfilled my globetrotting dream.
Ten years later, I came back home to Peru with the intention of settling down and creating an environment that would allow me to fulfil my dream of becoming a mom. So, I froze my eggs to increase my chances while the conditions were right and a few years later, I was ready and with all the desire in the world to achieve it, but without the right partner to start this important adventure.
So, just as I had done to fulfill my globetrotting dream, I decided to take the lead in this journey too and do it NOW and on my own.
Let us help you on your journey to parenthood
At Cryos, we give you full access to all donor profiles including pictures, voice recordings, handwritten letters, and more. Just create an online account by providing only your name, email, and country. A Cryos account is free and non-binding.
It was at this point that I found Cryos, guided by a friend married to a Scandinavian who told me how simple and frequent is to do it over there. Having lived for a while in Sweden and Denmark, I had experienced the solid rules of these countries and, above all, the high compliance of their citizens, so the Cryos Danish roots already gave me a lot of confidence, so I got down to work.
My motivation was even greater when I discovered the great possibility that donor-conceived children have the opportunity to meet their biological father when they reach adulthood if they wish. So, I focused on reviewing the records of these donors, looking for the right one.
How I choose a donor
For reasons of my future child's identity, I was looking for someone who was a physically and mentally healthy donor, as well as someone with similar skin colour, hair, eyebrows, and eyes to mine.
I wanted my child to identify with me and/or my relatives, so in addition to looking at childhood photos, I requested access to adult photos. I remember reviewing almost 70 detailed profiles and having two potential donor candidates, but I still could not make up my mind (I even thought about buying a sperm sample from each donor).
But when I had about three donors left to review, I found the right one! I loved his answers to the questionnaire that gave insight into his life; his reasons for donating; and his calm voice when he talked about it. There was no need to look further, so with the kind and efficient help of the Cryos consultant, 15 days later, I had the samples in Peru.
So, today I am more than PROUD to be Lucas' mom; and it is now when it is my turn to trot around the world and/or his world with him.
Dream fulfilled.
Hugs, Amalia Lorena
