Understanding Non-ID Release vs. ID Release Donor Profiles

Contacting a Cryos egg or sperm donor in the future

One of Cryos’ egg and sperm donor search components is the Non-ID Release or ID Release donors. This option can be seen in both extended and basic profiles. Donors have the opportunity to decide if they would like to remain anonymous or if they want to be contacted in the future.

The donor’s identities will never be released to the client regardless of the type of profile. Clients will be required to sign an agreement stating that they will not try to contact the donor. Likewise, donors do not have the possibility of contacting clients or donor conceived children. So, what is the difference between a Non-ID Release profile and an ID Release profile?

Non-ID Release

If you are looking at a Non-ID Release donor, that means you will only have information the donor has given in their profile, which is either basic or extended.

The donors' identities will never be released to the client or anyone else if they have chosen to be a Non-ID Release donor. The client will also sign an agreement stating that they will not try to contact the donor.

Why choose a Non-ID Release donor?

There may be various reasons to choose a Non-ID Release Donor. It could be that you prefer to know as little as possible about the donor or if you do not wish for the donor to play any role in your child’s life other than the sperm donation.

The decision between an ID Release or a Non-ID Release donor is very personal and only you know what the right decision for you is.

ID Release

An ID Release donor profile means that identifying information about the donor can be revealed to a donor child when he/she has turned 18. If Cryos is not contacted directly by the donor child themselves at that age or older, we will not reach out to them with the donor’s information.

Why choose an ID Release donor?

Just like with Non-ID Release donors, this decision can be influenced by a variety of reasons. Many people choose these profiles because they’d like to give the opportunity to their future child to meet the donor if they wish to do so.

What is the difference between basic and extended donor profiles?

Basic Donor Profile

A Basic Donor Profile contains a few basic characteristics about the donor. On Cryos' website, the donor will be registered with a number e.g. 6789 where you will be able to view their basic profile.

A donor with this type of profile will still go through the health and background check requirements regardless of their status as a basic profile.

Extended Donor Profile

An Extended Donor Profile includes all of the basic information of the basic profile in addition to more personal information. The donor's profile will be registered with a fake name, e.g. FINN on our sperm or egg donor search.

On most of the profiles, a staff impression will be included. This is a short, subjective description about the donor given from our staff. The extended profile also includes childhood photos of the donor, as well as a voice message recording of the donor talking about by they became a donor. In 2011, Cryos also started to register Emotional Intelligence (EQ) to be included in our FREE extended donor profiles. Some of these profiles also include adult photos, but not all of our extended profiles offer this.
