Donor sperm for fertility treatment at Rigshospitalet

When you have fertility treatment at Rigshospitalet (Department for fertility), you can order donor sperm from Cryos. The hospital offers to cover all expenses related to treatment with donor sperm if the donor sperm straws are ordered directly from Cryos’ website. The clinic does NOT cover expenses related to reservations of donor sperm, and it is not possible to choose a donor from the US, as these donors are not included in the agreement between Cryos and Region Hovedstaden.

When to order donor sperm for Rigshospitalet?

When you are having fertility treatment with donor sperm at Rigshospitalet, you must order donor sperm as soon as the fertility clinic has confirmed that you can begin treatment. You can read more about registration for fertility treatment at the department’s own website. All orders received by Cryos on Tuesday at the latest are sent on Wednesday with the weekly shipping to Rigshospitalet. When shipping on Wednesdays, the donor sperm will be ready for use in treatments as of Friday.

As the deadline for ordering donor sperm is often very soon after your treatment is confirmed, we recommend looking at our donor search well in advance and finding one or more favourite donors.

Which type of donor sperm to order for fertility treatment at Rigshospitalet?

Which type of donor sperm to order depends on the type of fertility treatment:

• IUI (Insemination): Order 1 straw IUI MOT20 for your fertility treatment
• IVF/ICSI: Order 1 straw IUI or ICI MOT10 for your fertility treatment

 

Which sperm donor types can I choose?

At Cryos, we have the world’s largest selection of sperm donors, and in our donor search, you can narrow down your results by using different filters such as ethnicity, eye colour, or height. First and foremost, however, you must decide if you want a Non-ID Release or an ID Release Sperm Donor? And whether you prefer a Basic or Extended Donor Profile. Learn more about your options here.

Do you want to give your child the option of contacting the donor in the future?

At Cryos, you can choose between Non-ID Release or ID Release donors.

With a Non-ID Release Donor, you or your child will never receive more information than what has already been disclosed in the sperm donor profile.

With an ID Release Donor, your child will have the opportunity to receive identifying information about the donor from Cryos when they turn 18 (full name, date of birth, and latest address provided to Cryos by the donor). With this information, your child can choose to try to contact the donor if they wish. Although the donor has agreed to be contacted, Cryos cannot guarantee or check whether the donor has changed his mind or whether he is accessible when the child reaches the age of 18.

How much do you want to know about the donor?
The Basic Profiles hold limited information such as the donor’s ethnicity, height, and weight. The Extended Profiles include the same information as Basic Profiles but also child photos of the donor, a handwritten message, a voice recording, an extensive Q&A section, and more.

Please note that some of Cryos’ sperm donors have pictures of themselves as adults in their donor profiles. Access to pictures of the sperm donors as adults is not included in the agreement between Cryos and Region Hovedstaden, which means the clinic does not cover expenses related to this.  

 

 

Reservation of donor sperm for siblings

If you already know that you want one or more children in the future, we recommend reserving donor sperm from your chosen donor, once you are pregnant. In that way, you can make sure that there will be straws in stock for you when/if you want to make a sibling. When you reserve straws, we keep them stored for you until you need them for treatment. When relevant, you can then log in to your Cryos account and indicate when and to which clinic you want the straws delivered.

If you wish to secure sperm straws for future treatments, you will need to cover the full cost yourself. This means paying for both the straws you reserve for later use and a reservation fee for Cryos to store them for a selected period. If it turns out that you will not need all reserved straws after all, Cryos offers a refund of up to 75% of the original donor sperm price within the first five years.
